ABSTRACT

Natural history and studies on ethiopathogenesis of idiopathic scoliosis, the most frequent cause of structural scoliosis, is evaluated. General concepts of classification and diagnostic modalities that can be used are reviewed. In the light of our present knowledge on the natural history and therapy of idiopathic scoliosis, the pros and cons of different types of surgical treatment, so far used or that are available, is discussed.
