ABSTRACT

Chiari malformation Type-1 as known as pri-mer cerebellar ectopy is changing position of ce-rebellum through foramen magnum to cervical spinal canal. The complete forming of this malformation is not known and several theories are sug-gested. In Chiari malformation Type-1 , clinic symptoms are due to compression of brainstem, medulla, lower cranial nerves, cerebellum and spinal cord. The most frequent finding is subocpi-tal headache (34 %>). For the pain, second frequ-ently seen place is cervical spine. In Chiari malformation Type-1, MRI of craniovertebral junction is a gold standard for diagnosis. However there is no definite treatment method until now. For symptomatic patients, surgical treatment is per-formed to prevent progressive neurologic deficits.
