Study Design:

Retrospective revievv of the first25 consecutive cases vvith sacrat fixation.

Objectives:

To report an easy technique of SI and S2 fixation with the variable angle screvv and the TSRH in-strumentation system.

Summary of Background Data:

Sacral Fixation with most instrumentation systems has always been a chal-lenge, especially so at the end of long constructs. The senior author introduced the Variable Angle Sere w (VAS) in 1992, as a modification of the original TSRH bone screvv. The screvv has since been used routinely in ali TSRH constructs.

Results:

The first 25 consecutive cases with sacral fixation have been revievved vvith an average follovv-up of 12 months. To date there have been no implant failures, screw loosening or demonstrable pseudarthroses.

Condusions:

We feel no other screvv allovvs variability in ali degrees of freedom as the Variable Angle Screvv. İt consequently minimizes the need for complicated or complex rod contouring and allovvs for easy attaehment of the rods, vvhile at the same time achieves safe and optimum fixation at both S1 and S2 levels.
