The objective of the study was to outline the bilateral pedicle diameters and angulations in transverse plane at the thoracolumbar spine. Computerized tomography seans of 94 patients with dorsolumbar pain but no radiographic signs of bony disease, deformity or spinal operation vvere investigated betvveen November 2000 and September 2002. There vvere 26 males and 68 females. The mean age of the patients was 42 years (12-60). The vvidest pedicle in females was at T12, and in males it was at L2. The largest pedicle angle in the transverse plane was at L2 in both sexes. There was a statistically significant gender related difference betvveen the bilateral pedicle diameters at L1 and L2.
