ALBUCASIS AND CHAPTERS RELATED SPINAL TRAUMA IN HIS TREATISE AL-TASRIF

Objective:

To introduce Albucasis, who was one of the most important surgeon of the 10th-11th century, and the chapters related spinal fractures and dislocations in his famous treatise.

Method:

An original copy of the al-Tasrif of Albucasis was transcribed into Latin alphabet, and then its chapters related spinal fractures and dislocations translated into contemporary Turkish.

Results:

Al-Tasrif is the first illustrated surgery book. Approximately 175-200 surgical tools were illustrated and introduced in its various issues. The 30th article which was on orthopedic, neuro and general surgery, was designed as 3 books. It became very famous. Albucasis proposed his own way of treatments on spinal fractures and dislocations.

Conclusion:

This treatise takes an important place in the medical history with its illustrations and surgical content. The work had a long lasting influence both in Islamic wot1d and Europe.
